Speedmaster Blower Intake review

Newly released by Speedmaster products is their intake to run a 6-71 blower on your FE.  This intake is not a new design but new intake manifolds have been hard to get and very expensive when found. This one was available for $385 and free shipping, we ordered one because well why not.  On first inspection the intake looks nice with just a few places with burrs or blemishes. The big thing we noticed is there is no flange around the intake port adjacent to the heat riser port. What this means is there no way to run this intake on production heads or aftermarket heads that has a heat riser,  short of welding the head up or adding material to the intake. Fitment to the heads and block was excellent with all bolt holes lining up perfectly. As for attachment you will need nonstandard length bolts as the middle three bolts are longer. Port match was good as far centering up to the head but you will need to shape the port to your FE heads rectangle port as these are more oval-ish . Time constraints kept us from checking distributor clearance but it appeared that there was enough room. Pushrod holes are quite small but this allows you to modify and shape to your needs. All in all I would say its a good intake and an exceptional buy for the money , hopefully they will follow up with a tunnel wedge intake next.

 6   3"

Got to admit a blown FE looks bad.

Speedmaster intake just out of the box

A few small casting flaws were all that we found nice overall

All tolerances and spacing looked good.

No where for heat riser to seal

Port shape needs to be matched to your heads

Looking through the intake down to the valve

Top is a factory intake bolt bottom is whats needed for center three bolts.

At first glance i thought this was a weld repair but it is cast in.
My best guess is that the original intake the mold was made from was repaired
and this mirrored it.
