JEEPERS SLEEPER

We all have been victim of a pulling up beside a car knowing we have it covered only to see taillights from something that does not look like it should run that fast. Scott Kinard and his father purchased this '61 with a 352,  but it was a short lived power plant due to an exuberant right foot. The family is deeply involved in  outlaw heads up drag racing here in the South so when the time came to rebuild the engine  it was of course built with a performance slant. A 390 block was found in the weeds  at a friends house and taken to the machine shop. An aftermarket crank and rods brought the cubic inches to 410 , topped by a set of stage 2 Promaxx heads.  Setting on top is a Edelbrock RPM Performer intake with a blow through carb, needed because pressurizing this beast is a single Precision turbo with self fabbed exhaust!! FE's have not caught on with the turbo crowd like a lot of engines, but with Scotts back ground it was a natural choice. Not being one to just modify half the car it was prepped to meet the new power level front to back. First stop was a McOan prepped C6 to handle the new found power, then out to a nodular 9" spinning aftermarket axels .  It is air bagged on all four corners to give it the in the weeds stance and drivability.  The car weighs in at 4200# so this is not lightweight but with the boost turned up he has turned a 6.90 @ 99mph in the 1/8 mile. Driving into the strip behind him the car is quiet and well mannered but pull it up to the line and the guy in the other lane gets a surprise. As for the body Scott says the paint is courtesy of nature and adds a level of stealth. This is Scotts first FE but he says he is very happy with the performance and reliability.  He credits his dad and friends as well as his girlfriend Katlyn  for help on the build . It is good to see a younger generation building FE's and bringing new ideas to the builds.
