HEAD TO HEAD part 4: TFS test
It is always exciting to see new parts introduced for our beloved engine, especially by a new manufacture. Enter Trick Flow Specialties a company whose roots are based in Ford for over 30 years . TFS has been teasing us with a new FE head for over a year now as well as a new intake, well the wait is over and we had to get our hands on one to test . Dan Rawls at Cleveland Performance engines has been a TFS dealer for over 20 years , offering their products at competitive pricing. He called and let them know that FE Club was interested in testing a head and they sent us one out . When designing these heads they placed the valve spacing to work on the 4.050 bore of a 390, which is handy for anyone using one of the many stroker kits on the market. The overall appearance of the head is nice and machine work is what you would expect from a company like this. Our test are on a production head pulled from the shelf of ready to ship heads. We noted that on the floor of the intake port there is a ridge running about an inch. When questioned it was explained that air tends to follow a obstruction much like blowing air against a bucket you can feel it on the other side.
This helps in directing the air through the port to the valve. An interesting note Dan told us that this head has an excellent port velocity for its flow numbers. As always our testing is done at Cleveland Performance Engines by Dan Rawls on a Superflow 600 with a 4.250 bore . Look and compare these heads with our other test to help determine the best product for your build. Thanks to Cleveland Performance and Trick Flow Specialties .
