ONE IF BY LAND , and FE IF BY SEA

Wes Adams is a name very familiar to most |FE guys that are on Facebook. As the founder and administrator of the page Ford Fe Fanatics it is a safe bet  that he is going to have a bitchin' FE ride. The one we are going to cover in this article is his 1967 Rayson Craft boat  powered by a 390.  As cool as FE rides are , finding out what makes a FE guy an FE guy is the interesting part.  For Wes it started with his Grandpa and uncle Bill , his uncle  was a machinist and Wes spent many years working with him  and learning some of his trade. Wes eventually took his love of mechanics to a level few do, donning the uniform of United States Airmen . In the Air Force  he began a career as a jet engine mechanic  on F-15's  , now that is some real horse power.  However he always kept an FE project close at hand.   After finding the Rayson Craft, good friends Wes French a retired fighter pilot and childhood friend Chris Hill helped pull the 390 and begin a rebuild and hop up .
The 390s cylinders were cleaned up with a .020 over bore  , particular attention was paid to the oil system to ensure no  problems would show up. A Milodon  high volume oil pump fills the veins with 30 weight non detergent oil with bottle of Crane Cams break in lube for good messure. Moving on to the bump stick, a Comp cams XE274H pushes Crower lifters connected to a Blue Racers roller rocker with end stands keeping it all in line. Keeping the cam and crank in sync is a Milodon gear drive timing set, guaranteeing chain stretch is never an option. The heads were left mildly modified for the sake of time , a three angle valve job on the stock 2.02 -1.55 valves keep them sealed  up nicely . Guiding the air into the ports is a FE power Inc. adapter that allows the use of a Cleveland intake to be run .  Future plans include a  a Dove tunnel ram to be tried next season , as always the search for the perfect FE combo continues.  When Wes is not wrenching on F15 fighters he is working in his shop Hillside Auto tuning and building quality products.  One of his fondest memories growing up was  watching his uncle street race a 1969 SCJ car running a 427 , according to Wes his uncle was the only Ford guy in town and defended the blue oval valiantly  .  Looks like he is carrying on that legacy and with a son that is 15 you can bet it will continue.  So enjoy the pictures of this unique FE powered ride and from all of us out there that enjoy and use the Ford FE Fanatics page thank you for all your dedication.
